The U.S. as well as Georgia are responsible for the August 2008 events in South Ossetia, stated the President of RSO Eduard Kokoity at the press-conference to brief on the results of the Y2008.
Having commented on the signing of US.-Georgia Charter on Strategic Partnership, the President stressed that “the U.S. together with the NATO member states are responsible for escalation of tensions and organization of aggression against South Ossetia, but nonetheless, the U.S. had not learnt any lesson.”
“This Charter incites Georgia for revenche statements. The so-called “alternative government” is becoming active. There are already talks about restoration of the notorious ‘state integrity’ and return South Ossetia to Georgia and so on, and so forth,” said Eduard Kokoity. According to him, “all these certainly brings South Ossetia to point where it should more cautiously and thoroughly deal with the issues of defense of our Republic to take into account the mistakes and weak points revealed by the August events”.
“We are dealing with the issue strengthening our defense capacities. We should not forget that the cooperation agreement which we concluded with the Russian Federation and the agreements on deployment of Russian military contingents are also among key elements guaranteeing our peace and stability. Jointly with the Russian Federation we do our best to defuse the tension and not let the situation develop in the light with the scenario imposed by the United States and Georgia. Caucasus is our common land and we should invest our maximum efforts and patience to preserve peace and security here”, stated the President. He underscored that “today, more and more states in the West do not share the viewpoints of the U.S. and certain political forces in leading European states do not support their leaderships in their position towards South Ossetia”.
“In the nearest future, we will have contacts with key political parties and movements in leading European states. Believe, South Ossetia has many supporters among those political forces in Europe which might come to power very soon. Europe has already understood the hidden agenda for the U.S. actions and that of many of their leaders who are simply puppets in the U.S. hands. Influence political groups in Europe are ready to contribute to support rehabilitating of South Ossetia. I believe that in the nearest future a number of European states will seriously think about recognizing the independence of South Ossetia,” stated Eduard Kokoity.
