The Head of RF FSB Border-Guard Department in South Ossetia Alexander Murzin stated that the crossing of the state border of South Ossetia with Georgia is maintained under a temporarily set procedure in Leningor district (Mosabruni) and Perevi.
”Today, there are no official checkpoints for cross-border movement. There are border segments where a temporary procedure has been set. Such checkpoints exist in Mosabruni, where the cross-border movement is more active and in Perevi. Daily, totally over 700 persons cross the border on both sides. According to standards of a borderline checkpoint, this could be considered as a quite intensive exchange”, said Murzin at his press-conference in Tskhinval.
He reported that currently, the issue of streamlining the procedure for border-crossing is under consideration. “It is necessary to more concretely identify the category of citizens and goods eligible for border-crossing, as well as identification documents accepted for border-crossing. It is necessary to establish customs office and conduct regular veterinary control over the cattle to be transferred”, said Murzin. According to him, it was still early to talk about establishing additional checkpoints at the border between South Ossetia and Georgia. «If there is a normally functioning border-crossing point in Tskhinval, there will no need to have additional points in rural districts”, stated Murzin.
The Russian border-guards protect the state border of South Ossetia in accordance with the inter-state Agreement between RSO and the RF on joint efforts aimed at protection of the state border of South Ossetia signed 30 April 2009 in Moscow.
