Memorial services are being held in the churches of South Ossetia for the victims of the Georgian aggression in August 2008.
According to the press service of the Alanian Diocese, August 8 is a tragic day in the recent history of South Ossetia.
"Eighteen years ago, the Georgian regular army perfidiously attacked the civilian population of Tskhinval and the Republic's border districts with the aim of the total extermination of all living beings on that territory. The aggressor made no secret of its intentions. The punitive operation was called 'Open Field,'" the diocese stated.
It noted that thanks to the extraordinary courage of its heroic defenders, Ossetia defended its land.
"Russia, a co-religionist, made a decisive contribution to the victory during the operation to force Georgia to peace," the press service has noted. "On this day, memorial and commemoration services are being held in the churches of the Alanian Orthodox Diocese for the innocent brothers and sisters killed during the August War. "Rukhsag ut, aefsymaertae aemae khotae!"
