Orthodox Christians in South Ossetia, along with the world Orthodox are celebrating the Christmas Day. The night before the Primate of the Alanian - Tskhinval Eparchy, His Grace Bishop Ambrose Mefonsky – Alanic, chanted the Christmas liturgy at the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Tskhinval. A festive liturgy was attended by South Ossetian President Leonid Tibilov. The Orthodox holiday was also marked by the cross procession on the streets adjacent to the temple.
Addressing the Orthodox people of South Ossetia, Leonid Tibilov has congratulated them with Merry Christmas, expressing confidence that the coming 2013 will bring positive changes to the people of the Republic.
"We have come to the temple in the evening, when the Orthodox people are celebrating the birth of Christ to pray for all the Ossetian people. I believe that 2013 will be a good year, and the people of South Ossetia will get out of the difficult situation. We are supported by the heavenly Powers. I congratulate you again on this bright holiday, "- said the head of state after the procession.
The parishioners have also willingly shared their impressions of the joyous event.
"Christmas atmosphere around the temple and among the people is so strong that a person is imbued with confidence in the power of the holiday. It is good that people unite during the religious holidays - it raises their inner spirit. I wish everyone happiness, health and harmony," - said Alan Gabaraev.
After the Christmas Day, on January 19 South Ossetia will be celebrating Twelve Great Feasts Orthodox holiday –the Theophany.
