Commentary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia on the possible reinvestigation of the August 2008 events in Georgia

Recently, from the Georgian platforms are increasingly heard the voices calling for a re-investigation of the facts that took place during the 2008 war, as well as the due legal assessment. In particular, the Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili said that "the topic of war is clothed in mist", and called for investigation of its factual background.

It is unclear, how long the events of August 2008 and all the fascist crimes of the Georgian leadership for the pat twenty years will be clothed in mist. It's time to remove the scales from the eyes of the Georgian people and the world community on the destructive inadequate policy of the Georgian leadership towards the people of South Ossetia, which led to numerous human casualties, destruction and dire humanitarian situation in the region.
It is known the main conclusion of the international commission by H. Tagliavini that it is Georgia that started the war against South Ossetia in August 2008, and this conclusion is beyond doubt. Moreover, there are so many living witnesses and participants of the events of August 2008, who know the truth and have to tell about it. In particular, in his interview the Georgian Army General Tristan Tsitelashvili, participant of the August war, has declared that
"they have documents and films " that show the real picture of the preparation and conducting the large-scale military action by Georgia against South Ossetia. Despite the fact that some of the statements of General Tsitelashvili require further investigation, his statements confirm the South Ossetian position on the August war, including the numerous Georgian provocations, carried out on the territory of South Ossetia by the Georgian special services up to August 2008.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia has appreciated positively the statements of the current Georgian leadership to conduct reinvestigation, and expresses hope that there will be conducted not formal, but comprehensive and objective investigation of the events of August 2008, and after that, of all the crimes committed by Georgia against the South Ossetian people for the past twenty years, that the Georgian authorities will finally admit their mistakes, and the perpetrators will face the trial and will be punished.
