Early next year, the State Customs Committee of South Ossetia and Federal Customs Service of Russia plan to sign an agreement on joint control of persons, vehicles and goods on the Russian-South Ossetian border, said the Chairman of the State Customs Committee of the RSO Murat Tskhovrebov at today's press conference.
According to him, the draft agreement is prepared on the initiative of the South Ossetian side.
"The signing of this agreement will significantly simplify the procedure of crossing the border. It is assumed that initially our staff will execute passenger vehicles at the North Ossetian checkpoint "Lower Zaramag." Gaining relevant experience they will proceed to the customs clearance of trucks, "- said the head of the Committee.
Tskhovrebov has explained that the agreement does not mean that the customs checkpoint "Upper Ruck" (Dzau district of the RSO) will cease to exist.
"It will be functioning, because customs is a mandatory attribute of any state. However, the amount of work there will be significantly reduced, it will perform control functions, "- added Tskhovrebov.
