In Moscow was signed an Agreement on the procedure of joining individual units of the Armed Forces of the Republic of South Ossetia in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
The document during today's meeting was signed by Defense Minister of the Russian Federation, Army General Sergei Shoigu and Defense Minister of the RSO, Lieutenant-General Ibrahim Gasseev.
The Agreement was signed in accordance with the Treaty of Alliance and Integration between the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia signed on March 18, 2015.
The defense ministers of the two countries also signed an Agreement on cooperation in the field of courier-postal service.
During the meeting, Sergei Shoigu has expressed the hope that these agreements will also affect the further deepening of security in South Ossetia.
Sergei Shoigu has reminded that on the territory of South Ossetia is deployed the 4th Russian military base that ensures the security of the republic and southern borders of Russia.
In turn, Ibrahim Gasseev sent regards to Sergey Shoigu and the command of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on behalf of the South Ossetian President Leonid Tibilov and expressed gratitude for the attention paid to the national army.
"I once again express my gratitude to the Russian Federation and its Armed Forces for ensuring peace and security in South Ossetia, for the aid rendered to our people during the August 2008 war. Thanks to the all-round assistance of the Russian Federation, we have been living in peace for the last several years and are confidently building our future," said Gasseev.
The Minister has noted, the agreement, signed today, is of great importance for the Republic of South Ossetia.
"When preparing the Agreement with the Russian colleagues, a large and productive work was carried out; compromises were found on all issues. First of all, by this agreement we will be further strengthening the defense and security of our state, creating prerequisites for active cooperation between the defense ministries of the two states, "he said.
"For citizens of the Republic of South Ossetia, who hold also Russian citizenship, are being created conditions for military service at the joint military base of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia, while they will be covered by all guarantees and facilities provided to the Russian servicemen."
Ibrahim Gasseev has called an important clause of the agreement the recognition of doing active military service in the armed forces of the two states.
"That is, that the Agreement for the Republic of South Ossetia is not only of military-political importance, but also of large socio-economic value," said Gasseev.
During the meeting, the heads of the defense ministries discussed topical issues of bilateral military cooperation, as well as regional security issues, including the situation in Transcaucasia.
