In South Ossetia reacted skeptically to the initiatives voiced in Georgia regarding raising the status of participants in the Geneva discussions from the Georgian side.
As reported to the news agency "Res" by the Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy of the RSO for post-conflict settlement Murat Dzhioev, "the main thing is not who represents the Georgian side at the Geneva discussions, but for the Georgian delegation to have both the authority and the desire to work on the elaboration of legally binding agreements between Georgia and South Ossetia, Georgia and Abkhazia."
According to him, only such a position can lead to the solution of the main task of the Geneva discussions – to ensure the security of South Ossetia and Abkhazia from Georgia.
He has reminded that the Geneva discussions on security in Transcaucasia are held since October 2008 in accordance with the Medvedev-Sarkozy agreements reached after the August aggression of Georgia against South Ossetia and the operation to force the aggressor to peace.
"Russian Federation has come to the rescue of the people of South Ossetia and the Russian peacekeepers, and since then has been trying to ensure peace and security in the region as a whole," - Dzhioev added.
The Plenipotentiary explained that the participants in the Geneva discussions are South Ossetia, Abkhazia, Georgia, the Russian Federation, the United States and international organizations - the UN, the OSCE and the EU.
"In accordance with the Medvedev-Sarkozy agreements, the Geneva discussions are designed to work out the conditions for ensuring the security of South Ossetia and Abkhazia by concluding legally binding agreements on the non-use of force between Georgia and South Ossetia, Georgia and Abkhazia," - Dzhioev said.
He has noted that the discussions play an important role in ensuring security and stability in the region as a whole, despite the fact that the development of documents on the non-use of force is very difficult.
"The Georgian delegation is not ready for any agreements and constructive work," - Dzhioev concluded.
Earlier, the initiative of representatives of the leadership of Georgia was commented on by the Abkhazian Foreign Minister Daur Cove, who also noted the incompetence of the Georgian delegation at the Geneva discussions.
"The Georgian side has the right to make such a decision, we will not comment on it. At the same time, if an official of the Georgian government participates in the Geneva discussions, we expect that this official will be authorized to make his own decisions. Today we see the unpreparedness of the Georgian side to make any decisions on the spot, and this fact seriously complicates our work", - noted the Abkhaz Foreign Minister.
