After completing domestic procedures, South Ossetian citizens crossing the border with Russia will be able to stay on its territory for an unlimited time.
South Ossetian parliamentarians discussed the significance of the treaty with the Russian Federation on the indefinite stay of citizens in the territory of both countries.
At a meeting on Friday, Zaza Driaev, Сhairman of the Parliament’s foreign policy and inter-parliamentary relations committee, told colleagues that the legislature received a letter from the Federation Council saying that on July 10, 2019, he approved the Federal Law “On Ratification of the Protocol on Amendments to the Treaty between the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia on Alliance and Integration of March 18, 2015 ”.
“This means that after the completion of domestic procedures, citizens of South Ossetia, crossing the border with Russia, will be able to stay on its territory for an unlimited time,” said Driaev.
The Parliament Speaker Alan Tadtaev has noted that the law was adopted by the State Duma on June 27, on July 10, the Federation Council approved it, and last Thursday the document was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“We can only rejoice at the steps of our Russian colleagues and South Ossetian parliamentarians who have worked on this document, and today we have obtained such results,” Tadtaev stressed.
It should be reminded that Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law ratifying the protocol to the Treaty of the Russian Federation with South Ossetia, which exempts citizens of the contracting parties from restrictions on the length of their stay in both countries. The document is published on the official portal of legal information.
The protocol was signed in Moscow on November 9, 2018. It provides for "the possibility for citizens of one contracting party to stay on the territory of another contracting party without restrictions on the length of stay established by the legislation of each of the states."
