The large-scale bilateral exercises with the participation of two combined-arms armies began in the Southern Military District (South-East Military District) against the background of the planned maneuvers of the member countries and partners of NATO in Georgia. This is stated in the district press service spread on Tuesday.

"The formations and military units of the 49th and 58th combined-arms armies of the Southern Military District, in accordance with the combat training plan, launched bilateral command-and-staff exercises on the ground under the supervision of Colonel-General Alexander Dvornikov, the district commander," the message reads.

The air units of the 4th Army of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Southern Military District, formations and units of the armed forces, logistics and medical support deployed in the areas of responsibility of both armies will be involved in them.

According to the press service, the grouping of troops created on the basis of formations and military units of the 58th combined army, the Russian military bases of the Southern Military District in South Ossetia and Abkhazia will have to withstand the attacking actions of the forces subordinate to the commander of the 49th combined army. In addition, the combat training tasks will work out the units of the 102nd military base deployed in Armenia.

Earlier it was reported that more than 3 thousand people from 14 NATO member countries and partners would take part in the Agile Spirit 2019 multinational maneuvers (“Agile Spirit 2019”) in Georgia. They will last from July 27 to August 9.
