The memory of those killed as a result of Georgia's armed aggression against South Ossetia will be honored in Tskhinval.
A photo exhibition "08.08.08 - 08.08.25" will be opened on the 17th anniversary.
A mourning requiem campaign will be held on the evening of August 7 at 22:00 at the memorial complex "To the Defenders of South Ossetia" on Makharbek Tuganov Street in Tskhinval. Representatives of the public, residents of Tskhinval, politicians, and the Republic's leadership will gather here.
On the morning of August 8, the Republic's leadership and the guests will lay flowers at the places where the defenders of South Ossetia died, after which they will visit the Museum of Burnt Souls in the village of Tbet in Tskhinval district.
The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Holy Trinity Churches will hold memorial services for the victims of the August war.
On the evening of August 8 the State Drama Theater will show the play "Forever Alive", based on the play by Viktor Rozov.
On August 8, candles will also be lit in Moscow and Vladikavkaz in memory of the dead civilians of South Ossetia, the defenders of Tskhinval, and the Ossetian and Russian peacekeeping forces.
On the night of August 8, 2008, Georgia launched the armed attack on South Ossetia. As a result of the war, more than a thousand people were killed, 72 of whom were Russian servicemen. On August 26, 2008, Russia recognized the sovereignty of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
The Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that the recognition of the independence of the two republics reflects the existing realities and is not subject to revision.
