The ceremony of laying wreaths and flowers at the places of death of the defenders of the city during the August 2008 war took place in Tskhinval.
The leadership of South Ossetia led by President Anatoly Bibilov, former presidents of South Ossetia Ludwig Chibirov and Leonid Tibilov, the Russian Ambassador to South Ossetia Murat Kulakhmetov, a delegation from North Ossetia, guests of the Republic, military personnel and representatives of the Republic’s public attended the memorial ceremony.
Minister of North Ossetia for National Relations, Aslan Tsutsiev, shared his impressions of the Republic’s restoration process with the “Res” news agency, saying "that year after year, South Ossetia is recovering, the war remains in the past, people are smiling."
“These days we are commemorating first of all those who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of Alanya. We say thanks to everyone who defended Ossetia, those who helped refugees during the hard years, those who helped to restore the young Ossetian state, ”Tsutsiev said.
