Republic of South Ossetia was proclaimed in 1990, and since then has had nothing to do with the territorial integrity of Georgia as a state. Therefore, when the United States or other UN states and international organizations affirm their recognition of the territorial integrity of Georgia, one should proceed from the composition, the territory in which Georgia entered the international community in 1992.
The appeal of the US State Department spokesman Morgan Ortagus to Russia to annul the decision to recognize South Ossetia and Abkhazia is more than incorrect, since diplomacy does not decide on a sovereign state with which to build relations.as well as to recognize, said Presidential Plenipotentiary for post-conflict settlement Murat Dzhioev.
“On August 8, 2008, Georgia treacherously attacked the Republic of South Ossetia, but as a result of a five-day war, it was forced into peace. The Russian Federation came to the aid of our people, most of whom are citizens of the Russian Federation. The fact that Georgia started the war against South Ossetia was confirmed by an independent commission of the European Union. Nevertheless, both Georgia and its patrons, in the person of the United States, in the first place, continue to assert that, allegedly, in 2008 Georgia was subjected to aggression, when in fact everything was the other way around,” Dzhioev said.
According to him, only after Georgia was forced to peace, on August 26, 2008, Russia recognized the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia.
“The Republic of South Ossetia was proclaimed back in 1990, and since then has had nothing to do with the territorial integrity of Georgia as a state. Therefore, when the United States or other UN states and other international organizations affirm their recognition of the territorial integrity of Georgia, it should be based on the composition, the territory in which Georgia entered the international community in 1992. I repeat, South Ossetia has nothing to do with this, therefore, any allegations that it violates the territorial integrity of Georgia are absolutely untrue, to say the least,” the Plenipotentiary said.
Murat Dzhioev also commented on the statement of the representative of the State Department that the work on demarcating the border of South Ossetia with Georgia has been ongoing in recent days.
“The Republic of South Ossetia has repeatedly proposed the Georgian party to sit down at the negotiating table on the designation of the state border line. However, the Georgian party is not talking with South Ossetia, therefore, the work on the designation of the state border line by the corresponding engineering structures is carried out unilaterally, in South Ossetia, at a certain distance from the state border with Georgia,” the Envoy noted.
He has added that at the same time, the territory and sovereignty of Georgia are not violated by one meter.
He also stressed that all works are carried out by the relevant border services of the Republic of South Ossetia.
“Therefore, again, the statement that the work carried out violates the territorial integrity of Georgia and threatens the stability of Georgia is nothing more than a bluff. And such statements of the US representatives look more than ridiculous, I want to remind them of the saying that there are no logs in one’s eye,” the Envoy said.
Dzhioev has noted that the designation of the border line between South Ossetia and Georgia contributes to strengthen security and stability in the region.
