Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia issued a statement regarding a special humanitarian operation conducted by the KGB of the Republic on the territory of Znaur district.

Earlier, the KGB reported that the border service of South Ossetia had begun the implementation of the next stage of a humanitarian operation in the vicinity of the village of Uista (Tselis) in Znaur district in order to ensure the safety of the citizens and stability in the region.

"In order to prevent provocations of the Georgian side on the section of the South Ossetian-Georgian border, near the village of Uista, the KGB combined group of border guards occupied a height of 944.8 (located above the Georgian police roadblock - Ed.), restored the state border mark and raised the flag of South Ossetia on the border with Georgia, "the KGB statement says.

In this regard, the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry stated that this operation "does not pose any threat to the population of the border territories of neighboring Georgia and is aimed, first of all, at maintaining the border regime, ensuring the security of the citizens of the Republic of South Ossetia living in the border strip of Znaur district, and also to strengthen stability in the region. "

The Foreign Ministry in its statement has noted that the provocative actions of Georgia on the part of the border territory of South Ossetia near the village of Uista (Tsnelis) under the protection of Georgian Interior Ministry units are continuing.

"The large-scale works on equipping the illegal border police roadblock in Tskhinval is regarded as a deliberate and demonstrative escalation of the situation in the border territories, fraught with serious destabilization of the situation not only on the border of South Ossetia and Georgia, but also in the region as a whole," the document says.

In this regard, the Foreign Ministry explains, President of the Republic Anatoly Bibilov ordered the KGB to start a special humanitarian operation in the vicinity of the village of Uista (Tsnelis) in Znaur district of South Ossetia in order to neutralize the threat to the residents of 29 houses of this gorge emanating from the power structures of Georgia.

The statement noted that the position of the South Ossetian side regarding the illegal invasion of the Georgian armed forces in South Ossetia remains the same - the immediate withdrawal and termination of all construction work.

South Ossetia has repeatedly appealed to the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia, to the co-chairs of the Geneva discussions on security in Transcaucasia, as well as to all participants in the Georgian-Ossetian settlement with a request to exert appropriate pressure on the Georgian side in order to stop further provocation of tension.

"However, unfortunately, this did not happen. Instead of a sober assessment of the situation, we heard abstract words that have nothing to do with reality," the Foreign Ministry emphasizes.
