South Ossetia and Syria: opening embassies and prospects for cooperation

The issue of opening Syrian embassies in Tskhinval is on the agenda in Damascus, Foreign Minister Dmitry Medoev said at a press conference in Tskhinval.

Syria recognized South Ossetia on May 29, 2018. Immediately after the recognition of South Ossetia by Syria, President of the Republic Anatoly Bibilov paid a visit to the SAR, documents were signed that laid the foundation for bilateral relations, and this process is ongoing.

The Foreign Minister has remined that the other day the South Ossetian delegation has returned from Damascus, where it took part in a serious event.

“As part of this visit, an important document was signed on the establishment of Trading houses in Tskhinval and Damascus. Naturally, we are in contact with the Syrian side, exchanging letters and various correspondence, and the issue of opening the Syrian Embassy in Tskhinval and the South Ossetian in Damascus, respectively, is on the agenda, ”Medoev emphasized.
