September 17, 2008, after the five-day August war and the recognition of South Ossetia by Russia, was signed the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between South Ossetia and Russia.
The Agreement entered into force on January 20, 2009, and the time period since then has shown the historical significance of the document that laid the foundation for the formation of the legal framework of bilateral relations.
This legal framework was developed with the signing of the Treaty of Alliance and Integration on March 18, 2015. It, in turn, became the basic document for the phased establishment of closer bilateral cooperation in the social, economic and humanitarian spheres, as well as in foreign policy, defense and security, while maintaining the state sovereignty of South Ossetia.
The Treaty was signed for a period of 25 years with the possibility of extension for subsequent ten-year periods.
In total, over 100 agreements have been concluded between the countries in various fields of cooperation.
