The delegation of the Defense Ministry of South Ossetia, headed by Minister of Defense Ibrahim Gasseev, took part in the celebrations held in Sukhum on September 30 in honor of the Victory and Independence Day of Abkhazia, according to the official website of the republic’s defense department.
The South Ossetian delegation, accompanied by the leadership of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Abkhazia, headed by Minister of Defense Mirab Kishmaria, laid flowers at the Glory Memorial in the center of the Abkhaz capital.
Minister of Defense Ibrahim Gasseev and representatives of the delegation also took part in other memorable and festive events.
Events in honor of the important date were held in Sukhum and other cities of the republic with the participation of the leadership of the Republic of Abkhazia, headed by President Raul Khadzhimba, war veterans, public figures and residents of the republic, foreign delegations.
The Patriotic War of the people of Abkhazia ended on September 30, 1993. Then the Abkhaz army liberated the country from the troops of the State Council of Georgia, went to the Ingur River, on the state border with Georgia, and hoisted the Abkhaz flag at the bridge.
In the war against Georgia, about 3,500 people were killed on the Abkhaz side. About five thousand were injured, more than two hundred people are missing.
