The Security Council of South Ossetia to prevent the outbreak of the coronavirus COVID-19 in the Republic has made a decision to close all the simplified checkpoints on the border with Georgia.
"The virus is spreading all over the world, now it has reached the neighboring Georgia. This is a serious challenge for South Ossetia, and the reaction should be prompt, at the same time balanced and correct," said President Anatoly Bibilov at a meeting of the Security Council on Thursday.
"In order to prevent the outbreak of COVID-19 in the territory of South Ossetia, the Security Council has made a decision to completely close all simplified checkpoints on the South Ossetian-Georgian border until further notice," the press service said in a statement posted on the website of the head of South Ossetia on Thursday.
Ministry of Health and Social Development and the Committee for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Well-Being have been instructed to develop a plan of preventive measures and a procedure for interaction with the responsible services of the Russian Federation.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic was instructed to publish an appeal to the citizens of South Ossetia with a recommendation to refrain from visiting foreign countries.
The new pneumonia-causing coronavirus COVID-19 began spreading from the Chinese city of Wuhan, the administrative center of the Chinese province of Hubei, in December 2019. According to the latest data, in the world the number of people infected with coronavirus exceeded 82 thousand people, deaths were recorded in more than 2.8 thousand cases.
