Despite the current restrictions related to measures to counteract the spread of coronavirus infection and repeatedly provided information about the possible negative consequences if it penetrates the territory of the Republic, the KGB of South Ossetia records an increase in smuggling activities across the state border with Georgia.

“In particular, the Committee’s Border Guard Service, in cooperation with the Border Guard servicemen of the FSB of Russia, has stopped a number of attempts to illegally smuggle goods in Leningor district of the Republic. According to reports, Georgian intelligence agencies are involved in organizing the canal, which involve citizens of South Ossetia living in the border territory into illegal activities to erode the state border regime and create the prerequisites for the penetration of the Covid-19 coronavirus into the territory of South Ossetia ", - stated in the KGB reported on Friday.

It should be noted that the smuggled goods range includes foodstuffs and basic necessities, such as flour, vegetable oil, condensed milk, canned meat and fish, freeze-dried products, personal hygiene products, batches of sticks for the iQOS electronic tobacco heating system (electronic cigarettes), as well as a large number of medical masks and gloves.

"All of the above was intended for sale in the Gori municipality chain of stores," the KGB notes.

Currently, the Border Guard Service of the KGB of South Ossetia is considering the issue of initiating criminal proceedings against violators and confiscation of the illegally transported products.

"Analyzing the counterproductive activities of the Georgian side, the KGB notes that, despite the statements by the Tbilisi regime about a stable situation, the border population of Georgia, against the backdrop of the introduced emergency regime and the stagnation of the Georgian economy, is clearly lacking in essential products and goods. At the same time, the crisis processes in the villages of the region Shida Kartli are developing against the backdrop of multimillion-dollar humanitarian aid coming to Georgia from international organizations, "the statement said.

With regard to the citizens of South Ossetia, the State Security Committee once again draws attention: before committing an unlawful act, think about the possible consequences, the existence of administrative and criminal liability for violation of border legislation, as well as about the health of loved ones who are at serious epidemiological danger.

The border of South Ossetia with Georgia has been completely closed since the end of February due to the threat of the entry of coronavirus into the territory of the Republic.
