Servicemen of the Defense Ministry of the Republic of Abkhazia as part of the command and cadets of the Sukhum Higher Combined Arms Command School have laid wreaths at the memorials of civilians and defenders of South Ossetia who died during the Georgian aggression.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Defense, the cadets visited the "Grieving Mother" memorial obelisk in memory of the victims of the Zar tragedy, the monument to the Hero of Russia, Major Denis Vetchinov, who perished in August 2008, other memorials on the territory of the Republic, as well as the monument to the Hero of the Soviet Union Vasily Semenovich Chochiev in the mountainous village of Orteu, Tskhinval district of South Ossetia.
The officers of the Ministry of Defense - the assistant to the Minister of Defense for work with believers in the military, captain of the reserve Alan Tigiev, senior officer of the department for work with the personnel of the Guard, Major Guram Tskhovrebov, and others - told the Abkhazian servicemen about the tragic events to which the memorials are dedicated.
The command and cadets of the Sukhum Higher Combined Arms Command School arrived in Tskhinval as part of a large delegation from the Republic of Abkhazia to participate in the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the formation of the Republic of South Ossetia. The servicemen took part in the military parade on the main square of the capital, the hero-city of Tskhinval on September 20 and other solemn events.
In accordance with the plan of cultural and leisure activities prepared and implemented by the Department for Work with the Personnel of the Ministry of Defense, the Abkhaz military personnel also visited a number of other sights of the Republic, including the national museum.
