Russian lawmakers are satisfied with the resumption of inter-parliamentary cooperation with colleagues from South Ossetia, said the head of the international committee of the Federation Council, head of the Russian delegation Konstantin Kosachev.

"Since the beginning of the pandemic, inter-parliamentary contacts have been suspended, but since autumn they have begun to recover, except for the South Ossetian Parliament," the senator said on Friday on the Russia 24 TV channel.

The Russian delegation visited Tskhinval on Friday.

Kosachev has noted that a political crisis was developing in the Republic, contradictions intensified, as a result, some of the deputies refused to participate in the sitting of the country's parliament, and the quorum disappeared. "It was very important for us to restart the mechanisms of inter-parliamentary cooperation. Today we held consultations with all the political forces of the Republic," the parliamentarian said.

According to him, the counterparts realized their responsibility, listened to the arguments of the Russian party and resumed their work in the Parliament. "This means that our inter-parliamentary cooperation has resumed," Kosachev said.

He has stressed that inter-parliamentary ties are important for the interaction of states as a whole, since legislators ratify international agreements and monitor their implementation.

Kosachev gave an example that the Russian Parliament is now considering an agreement with South Ossetia on the mutual recognition of disability for military personnel of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, issues in the field of pensions, border crossing in terms of human flows and trade are being discussed. It is necessary to activate investment projects, the senator believes.
