The Tbilisi regime, using the capabilities of its special services, is trying to neutralize the activities of independent media and civil society activists monitoring the situation along the state border line between South Ossetia and Georgia, the State Security Committee of South Ossetia said on Thursday.

So, in mid-February, an official representative of the State Security Service during a briefing criticized one of the NGOs that had previously disseminated information about the concealment by the authorities of the real number of facts of detentions of residents of Georgia for violating the administrative and legal regimes established on the state border of South Ossetia, the press service of the KGB said. “There is an attempt by the Georgian special agency to discredit to the public the results of civil initiatives to mark the state border and control the activities of state authorities in the interests of ensuring the safety of residents of the settlements bordering the Republic of South Ossetia.”

For its part, the KGB positively assesses the work of non-governmental organizations, "especially the Power in Unity NGO," and believes that, within the framework of the exerted control influence, this structure and its leader D. Katsarava are carrying out constructive and beneficial activities for South Ossetia to highlight border issues and bring reliable information about the passage of the South Ossetian-Georgian state border to citizens of Georgia."
