However, in fierce battles, the Ossetian warriors, who lost relatives and friends, who saw the death of their comrades in arms and the inhuman cruelty of the enemy, retained their spirit, faith in themselves and in inevitable victory. The Patriotic War of South Ossetia became a war for the life, for the existence of our people and their right to their native land. The Parliament of the Republic relied on this strength of spirit and the indomitable will of the people, on May 29, 1992, securing the choice made by the citizens of the Republic at a popular vote by the Act of Declaration of State Independence, "Bibilov emphasized.
The President has noted that years later, the fait accompli of the existence of South Ossetian statehood, built on a legal foundation, its formation and the willingness of the people to fight to the last drop of blood for their right to freedom and national dignity, made it possible to bring the issue of South Ossetia to the international agenda, gave Russia the opportunity to stop the oversized aggressor and recognize the state independence of the Republic of South Ossetia.
"29 years is a considerable period for human memory. New generations have grown. But the memory of that fateful and heroic time of the formation of the Republic is lives in our hearts. There is pain in this memory, but at the same time, in this memory there is pride. We will never forget the price we paid for our freedom and independence.
Every year on May 29, meeting this festive date, we bow our heads to all who gave their lives for the freedom of South Ossetia, noting the state approach, foresight and responsibility of the deputies of the first convocation before future generations and the future of the Republic! We thank Russia, which came to the rescue, which saved many thousands of lives, and which helped to restore the country from ruins and ashes in the post-war years.
