In Tskhinval, on Sunday, has been paid last tribute to the outstanding state and public figure of South Ossetia Boris Chochiev. He died at the age of 64 in the intensive care unit of the Vladikavkaz hospital from the consequences of coronavirus infection.

The leadership of South Ossetia, headed by President of the Republic Anatoly Bibilov, Russian Ambassador to the Republic of South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov, a delegation from North Ossetia, relatives, friends, and representatives of the public gave the last honor to Boris Chochiev .

The funeral meeting was opened by Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy of South Ossetia for post-conflict settlement Murat Dzhioev.

“Boris Eliozovich has lived a short life, but he managed to do a lot, leaving behind a bright and significant trace. Even the enemies of the Ossetian people respected him for his activities and firm position. He was always ready to help and was helping everyone who turned to him. Boris Chochiev will always live in our hearts,” said Dzhioev.

Chairman of the North Ossetian regional branch of the All-Russian Public Organization of Veterans of War, Labor, Military Service and Law Enforcement Agencies Kazbek Friev said that Ossetia has suffered a great loss with the dearth of Boris Chochiev.

Former head of the South Ossetian government Domenti Kulumbegov has noted that Boris Chochiev always defended the interests of his people and was a patriot of the Republic. "His life path will be an example of true service to his Fatherland ...".

At the end of the funeral meeting, telegrams of condolences were read out on the death of Boris Chochiev. Among them - from the head of North Ossetia Sergei Menyailo.

"Please accept my sincere condolences in connection with the untimely death of a true patriot and citizen, a prominent statesman and political figure who has always stood guard over the interests of his people - Boris Eliozovich Chochiev ..." - Menyailo said in the text of condolences.

Boris Eliozovich Chochiev was born on November 1, 1957 in the Styrkom village of the Tskhinval district of South Ossetia. In 1982 he graduated from the biological faculty of the South Ossetian State Pedagogical Institute. He was working in the structures of the Komsomol (1980-1986), then at the South Ossetian regional committee of the Communist Party of Georgia (1986-1991). In 1991-2001 he was working in the Committee on Ethnic Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia (since 1993 - the Committee on Nationalities and Migration): in October-December 1991 - a leading specialist, in December 1991-May 1992 - Deputy Chairman, in May 1992-April 2001 - Сhairman ... 1993-2001, at the same time, - a member of the Joint Control Commission for the Settlement of the Georgian-Ossetian Conflict (JCC 2001-2008 - head of the South Ossetian part of the JCC, co-Chairman of the JCC from the South Ossetian part.
