The State Security Committee of South Ossetia, in connection with the continuing trends of violations of the South Ossetian-Georgian border, points to the need to comply with the border legislation of the Republic in the context of the deteriorating sanitary and epidemiological situation caused by the high rate of spread of coronavirus infection in Georgia.
The committee has noted, that the protection of the state border is carried out by the KGB Border Service in cooperation with the Border Guard Service of the FSB of the Russian Federation in the Republic on the basis of the Agreement signed between the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia.
"The measures carried out by the border authorities of South Ossetia and Russia contribute to the implementation of the state border policy of the Republic and allow timely and effective prevention and suppression of criminal activities on the state border for the movement of weapons, ammunition, explosives, drugs and various consumer goods prohibited for free circulation. At present, on the state border and the border area, administrative and legal regimes are aimed at creating the necessary conditions for ensuring the safety of citizens of the Republic, "the KGB said in a statement released on Wednesday.
The special service has emphasized that the built-up system of protecting the state border makes it possible to prevent the penetration of terrorist and extremist elements, means of sabotage into the Republic, as well as effectively hinder the intelligence activities of foreign special services and organizations that can cause colossal damage to the security of the individual, society and the sovereignty of the state.
"Under these conditions, the joint efforts of the South Ossetian and Russian border guards make it possible to curb the spread of coronavirus infection, new strains of which can endanger the life and health of citizens of South Ossetia due to the unfavorable sanitary and epidemiological situation in Georgia, where there is a high rate of growth in the incidence of the population. effective protection of the state border by the border authorities of South Ossetia and Russia is a guarantee of the preservation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state, as well as ensuring the security of every inhabitant of the Republic, "the message says.
