On Thursday, artists of the world-renowned twice Red Banner A.V. Alexandrov Academic Song and Dance Group of the Russian Army. performed in South Ossetia with a concert-requiem "Let the memory candle burn."

The concert was dedicated to the next anniversary of the August 2008 war. More than 28 numbers were presented on the stage. The performance began with the famous song "Cranes". During the performance of the song, candles and a carnation symbol of memory and sorrow were brought to the stage.

The famous songs "I will go out into the field with a horse", "Come back", "Missing in action", etc. were also performed, and choreographic compositions were also shown. Spectators greeted each performance with enthusiasm and thunderous applause. The Ossetian dance performed by the dancers of the ensemble Alina Pisarkova and Vladimir Starchenko aroused special admiration. The dancers specially prepared the dance for the show in South Ossetia.

The host Alexander Kazakov recalled the events of August 2008.

“We decided to move away from the usual format of our performances, and specially for this date prepared a requiem concert dedicated to the memory of that terrible five-day war. Today we are remembering the events of the night of 7 - 8 August 2008, when the whole world was watching the opening of the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, and at that time an armed conflict began, which lasted 5 days ... At that time, the Russian peacekeeping battalion stationed in Tskhinval was at the forefront of the main attack of the Georgian troops. It was the Russian peacekeepers who were the first to take the blow of the advancing Georgian troops, " the presenter said.

Kazakov has noted that historically, since 1774, Russia supported the independence of South Ossetia from Georgia.

“By order of the Russian emperor, back in 1843, the South Ossetians were excluded from the system of feudal dependence, and hence political control by the Georgian nobility, receiving a special socio-economic status. This was the prototype of the future political autonomy of South Ossetia, due to its historically formed special situation in Transcaucasia. Since then, the history of South Ossetia has been inextricably linked forever with Russia! ”Kazakov emphasized.

He has noted that on August 26, Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

“Moscow on August 26, 2008 recognized the sovereignty of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. The artists of the twice Red Banner Alexander Academic Song and Dance Ensemble of the Russian Army Vasilyevich Alexandrov dedicated this concert to those memorable days and to all the people of the Republic of South Ossetia, who bravely defended their Motherland,” added Kazakov.

On the eve of the concert the ensemble performed in Leningor district of South Ossetia. As the press-secretary of the administration of the district Angela Kokoeva told the IA "Res", the head of the administration of Leningor district Vladimir Guliyev and the head of the department of culture Visarion Bitarov thanked the artists of the group.

The concert was held as part of the events dedicated to the 13th anniversary of the August war.
