In Tskhinval, a summit meeting was held between President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov and President of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhania. Anatoly Bibilov in his welcoming speech has noted that peoples of South Ossetia and Abkhazia are linked by centuries-old friendship.

“I would like to express my deep gratitude for visiting the Republic on the eve of the anniversary of the start of the Georgian aggression, this is a tragic date for us, and the fact that friends come to support us on this day is worth a lot,” the President said.

According to the head of state, issues of further cooperation, including the possibility of economic interaction, will be discussed with the Abkhaz counterpart, "there are prerequisites for this."

Bzhania has noted that he could not help coming to the Republic on this day.

“We have passed and are going the same path in many respects, we are facing the same challenges today and acting together is very important for achieving common goals,” he stressed.

The heads of the two states exchanged memorable gifts. At present, a meeting is underway in an expanded format with the participation of the Abkhaz delegation and representatives of the leadership of South Ossetia.

The Abkhazian delegation arrived in the Republic to participate in mourning events timed to coincide with the 13th anniversary of the war in August 2008.
