“August 26, 2008 in the modern history of the Ossetian people is the most important date in the long-term national liberation struggle for their freedom and independence, for the right to live on their land in peace and security.
On this day, the Russian Federation, taking into account the will of the people of South Ossetia, guided by the principles of international law, recognized the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia. This historic event became a symbol of South Ossetia's victory over the evil perpetrated for many decades by the criminal Georgian regimes of Gamsakhurdia and Saakashvili, "the message says.
The Embassy has noted that the noble determination of the leadership and people of Russia, who saved South Ossetia in August 2008 from destruction, will forever remain in the grateful memory of the Ossetian people.
"Thanks to the large-scale assistance of Russia, South Ossetia is successfully solving the tasks of state building, the development of the political and socio-economic foundations of the state, the strengthening of internal law and order and external security," the diplomatic department said, noting that the recognition of the independence of South Ossetia by the Russian Federation opened up for the Republic of South Ossetia new prospects for the stable development of the Republic, made it possible for the peaceful and safe existence of the Ossetian people.
