The second international online conference for families of the missing persons is being held on September 6-7 in the conference hall of the Iryston hotel in the capital of South Ossetia. The event was organized by the Mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

According to the press service of the ICRC, ten relatives of the people who went missing in the conflicts of the 1990s and 2008 are taking part in the conference.

Opening the conference, Ms. Miriam Favier, Acting Head of Mission of the ICRC, noted the uniqueness of the event, which brought together about 500 representatives of families of the missing persons from dozens of countries and all over the world in the virtual space. By participating in a global gathering, families have the opportunity to share their experiences, join forces and share a common desire to get answers about the fate of their loved ones.

“The families of the missing, wherever they are in the world, should not be alone in their tragedy. The process of finding out the fate of the missing is long and painful, and we must go through it together. Your voice must be heard,” concluded Ms. Favier.

The Presidential Commissioner for Human Rights, Inal Tasoev, addressing those present, thanked the families for their participation and stressed the importance of actively involving the families of the missing in such global initiatives.

The agenda of the conference consists of several modules, summarized by the theme of psychological and social support for the families of the missing persons, while simultaneously connecting audiences around the world.
