Photos of 53 the Ossetian guys who died during the Russian special operation to defend Donbass will be carried in the "Immortal Regiment" in Tskhinval, Zhanna Zasseeva, Minister of Culture of South Ossetia, told the “Res” news agency.
This year, about 10,000 people will take part in the procession of the Immortal Regiment.
“From year to year we hold parades as a symbol of courage, resilience and loyalty. Photos of the defenders who died in 1989-2008 will be carried along the main square of the capital. We will not close the "Immortal Regiment" with the procession of children with balloons and bows, no, there will be 53 photographs of our guys who perished in the Donbass. With the permission of their relatives, their photographs will be carried by the mothers of the fallen Defenders of the Fatherland. Ossetian and Russian servicemen will close the procession as a symbol of unity and support. And we will never allow Nazism to raise its head on our land,” Zhanna Zasseva has emphasized.
According to the Minister, the Immortal Regiment marches will take place in the city of Kvaisa and a number of districts of the Republic.
"The Immortal Regiment" is an international public civil-patriotic movement to preserve the memory of the generation of the Great Patriotic War. Every year on Victory Day, participants in the movement march through the streets of cities with photographs of their relatives - participants in the war and write down family stories about them in the People's Chronicle on the movement's website.
The action has been taking place in South Ossetia for several years in a row. More than 10,000 people are participating in the Immortal Regiment formation on May 9 - almost every fifth inhabitant of the Republic. During the Great Patriotic War, more than 23 thousand people went to the front from South Ossetia, more than 18 thousand of them perished or went missing.
