In South Ossetia on Sunday, at 8 am, polling stations opened, the presidential elections have started. As the CEC secretary Kristina Avlokhova told the “Res” news agency, “the activity of voters is being observed at the polling stations, according to the information coming from the remote villages polling stations, the voting process there began without excesses.”
Ministry of Internal Affairs of South Ossetia is serving in an enhanced version. All polling stations of the Republic are under protection.
Two candidates who made it to the second round are contending for the post of head of the Republic - this is the incumbent President Anatoly Bibilov and the leader of the Nykhas party Alan Gagloev.
A total of 76 polling stations have been opened in Tskhinval, as well as in all four districts of South Ossetia - Tskhinvali, Dzau, Znaur and Leningor. In addition, two polling stations have been opened in North Ossetia, one each in Moscow and Sukhum. The CEC of the Republic produced 40,000 ballots. More than 32,000 voters are registered in the country.
The polling stations will close at 20:00 Sunday.
The winner is determined by a simple majority of votes. To recognize the second round of elections successful, more than 30% of the voters included in the voting lists must take part in the voting. The ballots provide an opportunity to vote against all candidates.
The elections will be monitored by foreign observers - from Russia, the DPR, the LPR, Abkhazia. More than 25 observers received accreditation for the elections.
To cover the preliminary results of the voting and the results of the elections in Tskhinval, the information center of the CEC will be opened at 9 am. The first CEC briefing is scheduled for 10:00.
