A meeting of the Commission for Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Parliament of South Ossetia was held in Moscow

As part of the working visit of the delegation of the Parliament of South Ossetia to the Russian Federation, the Chairman of the Committee of the Federation Council Grigory Karasin met with the Chairman of the Committee of the Parliament of South Ossetia on Foreign Policy and Inter-Parliamentary Relations Zaza Driaev, according to the official website of the Federation Council.

A member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Sergei Tsekov and a Chairman of the South Ossetian Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Relations Zaza Dryaev as co-chairs held a meeting of the Commission on Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Parliament of the Republic of South Ossetia.

As noted by Sergei Tsekov, the Commission's meetings are held regularly, twice a year.

“At the moment, one hundred and eleven contracts, agreements, memorandums, cooperation plans have been concluded with the Republic of South Ossetia. Since the recognition of the sovereignty of South Ossetia by Russia, the countries have been progressively moving along the path of integration,” Sergei Tsekov said.

The senator made a speech during the consideration of the issue of legislative support for the implementation of the Treaty of Alliance and Integration signed between the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia. In particular, they talked about the Agreement between the governments of the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia on the settlement of the issues of dual citizenship.

The legislator has reminded that the implementation of this agreement requires the implementation of domestic procedures. So, on May 19, the State Duma adopted the Federal Law on the regulation of the issues of dual citizenship.

“This issue will be considered at the next meeting of the Federation Council,” Sergei Tsekov said.

The agenda of the Commission meeting also considered the issues on measures to combat coronavirus infection in the Republic of South Ossetia, on the organization of medical care, including sanatorium treatment for citizens of the Republic of South Ossetia who need infertility treatment in specialized medical institutions of the Russian Federation, on restrictions on export and import of cars into the Russian Federation from South Ossetia.

A separate topic of discussion was the issue of consultations between employees of the office of the Parliament of the Republic of South Ossetia and employees of the office and relevant committees of the Federation Council. It was decided to continue the practice of consultations and hold them in the second half of 2022.

It was approved the working plan of the Cooperation Commission for the second half of 2022.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy Konstantin Dolgov, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy Elena Bibikova, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security Krym Kazanokov, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security Margarita Pavlova, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture Rimma Galushina.

Practical issues of bilateral relations and prospects for inter-parliamentary cooperation were also discussed.
