The issue of signing a memorandum of cooperation was discussed at the meeting between the Chairman of the Committee on Youth Policy and Sports of South Ossetia Soslan Gassiev and Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Youth and Sports of Abkhazia Beslan Karchava.
The Abkhaz party initiated the signing of the document.
The memorandum is intended to strengthen bilateral cooperation and friendly relations between the parties, contributing to achievement of common goals in the development of sports and youth policy in the territories of both republics.
Soslan Gassiev and Beslan Karchava discussed the main areas of upcoming cooperation: mutual support by specialists, exchange of experience, participation in seminars, inviting athletes to events and other aspects.
Beslan Karchava has emphasized that the document will be the important step in strengthening cooperation in the field of sports and youth policy between the two republics.
"The memorandum mainly concerns sports cooperation, including mutual support by specialists. I think sports will bring us even closer together," he said.
In the area of youth policy, a mutual exchange of young people for participation in holiday camps is planned.
"I am sure that we will succeed if we work together and in a friendly manner," Karchava has added.
He focused on the regular mutual participation of the South Ossetian and Abkhaz athletes in various tournaments, citing as an example the current participation of the Abkhaz tennis players in the 10th Anniversary International Table Tennis Tournament in Tskhinval.
Karchava also invited the South Ossetian athletes to take part in table tennis competitions to be held in Abkhazia in August.
Soslan Gassiev, for his part, thanked Beslan Karchava for his visit to the Republic and the initiative to sign a memorandum of cooperation.
"We will review the draft memorandum and I think we will sign it. I believe that the document will become the important tool for further strengthening friendly relations between Abkhazia and South Ossetia," Gassiev said.
