According to the Treaty of Alliance and Integration between Russia and South Ossetia, the contracting parties must pursue a coordinated foreign policy, which implies mutual consideration of interests. This was stated by Acting. Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia Dmitry Medoev at the press conference in Tskhinval, following the consultations of the South Ossetian delegation with officials in Russia.
According to him, approvals should be held through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“In January 2021, a plan of consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Russia and South Ossetia for 2021-2022 was signed in Moscow,” Medoev recalled. “This is a mechanism for holding consultations on the issues of mutual interest.”
Medoev has noted with regret that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not receive any written or oral appeal regarding the issue under discussion - the wording of the question of the referendum on joining Russia.
"Unfortunately, because we would pay attention to the documents that were signed and to the opportunities that these documents provide us - to hold the consultations," Medoev said.
Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs also spoke about the meetings of the South Ossetian delegation with the officials in Russia.
