On Friday, the South Ossetian delegation, headed by Acting Foreign Minister Dmitry Medoev took part in the farewell ceremony in Krasnodar for the former commander of the helicopter regiment, Colonel Alexei Vostrikov.
This was reported to the news agency "Res" in the the Presidential Executive Office of the Republic.
The delegation of South Ossetia has also included Vice-Speaker of Parliament Vladimir Kelekhsaev, Secretary of State - Deputy Minister of Defense of South Ossetia Vadim Siukaev and others.
At the funeral meeting, a telegram of condolences was read out on behalf of President Alan Gagloev and the people of the Republic.
Colonel of the Armed Forces, deputy of the City Duma of Krasnodar Alexei Vostrikov died at the age of 71 after a long illness.
Alexey Vostrikov is a legendary person for South Ossetia. During the Georgian aggression of 1991-92, they prayed to him like a god. The commander of a helicopter regiment in Tskhinval, he was an insurmountable obstacle in the way of the Georgian armed formations, who committing acts of violence against the civilian population of South Ossetia.
With the help of the Russian helicopter pilots, the wounded were transported, refugees were being evacuated, vital supplies were being delivered to the besieged Tskhinval. In a word, Colonel Vostrikov was both a protector and a savior, and a hope for a better future, for which South Ossetia was suffering such huge sacrifices and incredible hardships.
He was an honorary citizen of Tskhinval, awarded 14 medals, the Order of Friendship of South Ossetia and the Order of Merit.
One of the streets of Krasnodar will be named after Alexei Vostrikov.
