Deputies of the Parliament of South Ossetia listened to the statement of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation in connection with the International Day of Parliamentarism.

The statement was read by the head of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and Inter-Parliamentary Relations Zaza Driaev.

The parliamentarian noted that on the eve of the International Day of Parliamentarism, celebrated annually on June 30, 2018 in accordance with the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly adopted on May 22, 2018, the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation is calling on the parliaments of the countries of the world to contribute to creating an atmosphere of trust and harmony in the world affairs.

“The senators of the Russian Federation are convinced that, in the conditions of the crisis of the modern world order and the formation of a multipolar world order, inter-parliamentary cooperation and parliamentary diplomacy are designed to promote dialogue between states. A special role in this process belongs to international inter-parliamentary organizations,” Driyaev said.

According to him, the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation stands for maintaining and developing the potential of the Inter-Parliamentary Union as a platform for an equal exchange of views between national parliaments, noting the inadmissibility of imposing on the Inter-Parliamentary Union a collective West unilateral approach to resolving emerging crisis situations in international relations

“Russian senators are actively working with their foreign parliamentarians within the framework of such international parliamentary structures as the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of States Members of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum, the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation , the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy," the head of the Committee has emphasized.

The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, according to Driaev, has noted the unacceptability and deliberate doom to failure of any attempts by the collective West aimed at disrupting the dialogue and national parliaments of sovereign states, disorganizing the work of inter-parliamentary structures.

“The desire of the United States of America and its allies to impose on the world community a certain “order based on rules” leads to the destruction of the democratic principles of the modern world order, undermining the sovereign equality of independent states, the revival of the worst practices of forceful dictates, threats and ultimatums, characteristic of the times of neo-colonialism,” - he has noted.

The parliamentarian have also added that the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation is forced to state that the aggressive actions of the collective West undermine the generally recognized principles and norms of international law, including those enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.

“The senators of the Russian Federation consider unacceptable the illegal sanctions imposed by the United States of America and their allies against parliamentarians, the use of international parliamentary organizations to attack sovereign states, pressure on national parliaments exerted by representatives of the diplomatic departments of Western states, demanding the termination of inter-parliamentary cooperation with other countries,” Driaev has added.

The parliamentarian has stressed that the Senators of the Russian Federation congratulate their fellow parliamentarians on the International Day of Parliamentarism calling for joining efforts in the formation of a constructive agenda for mutually beneficial cooperation aimed at establishing strong ties between the parliaments of the world's states and expanding the inter-parliamentary dialogue based on the principles of mutual respect and consideration of each other's interests.

Deputies of the Parliament of South Ossetia unanimously supported the statement.
