The head of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Grigory Karasin said about the "clear desire" of the European Union, the United States and Switzerland to disrupt the work of the Geneva discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia. He wrote about this in his telegram channel.

"The main restraining mechanism that ensures predictability and stability in the region is the International Geneva Discussions convened in 2008, in which representatives of Sukhum, Tskhinvali Tbilisi, as well as Russia and the United States, mediated by the UN, the European Union and the OSCE," Karasin, who participated in these discussions, has written.

According to him, a total of 55 rounds of "rich dialogue and heated discussions" were held. He called the Geneva discussions a safety net in the South Caucasus region. “In recent months, the clear desire of the European Union, the United States and Switzerland itself to disrupt the work of the Geneva discussions under the pretext of the events in Ukraine has been alarming. The last meetings were held in December 2021. This is extremely dangerous, as it can lead to deliberate provocations. This is extremely dangerous, as it can lead to deliberate provocations. So, marking the next date of aggression (ex-President of Georgia Mikhail) Saakashvili, we must think about how to prevent this in the future," the senator stressed.

International discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia have been held in Geneva since 2008 with the participation of Abkhazia, Russia, Georgia, South Ossetia and the United States, mediated by the UN, the EU and the OSCE special representatives. The work is traditionally carried out in two working groups - on security and on humanitarian issues. The Geneva discussions remain the only platform for dialogue between Sukhum, Tskhinval and Tbilisi.
