The agreement between Russia and South Ossetia was signed in 2015, since then there has been constant work on filling the legal document with solutions, a member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, a representative from the legislative body of state power of the Republic of Crimea Sergey Tsekov told reporters.

According to him, 120 agreements, protocols and other documents have been adopted in seven years.

“The work is ongoing, because in the process of the life of South Ossetia and cooperation with Russia, some unresolved issues appear that complicate the provision of the entire large agreement, which is the basic document. This year, this work has been continued,” he explained.

Tsekov has stressed that the main burden in the implementation of the major treaty falls on the executive branch. And if this year, according to the senator, there was not a single document concerning the relationship between the two states, which was ratified in the State Duma, then a lot is being done through the executive branch.

“During this year, many documents and protocols have been adopted that consider the issues of social protection of the population of South Ossetia, wage increases for military personnel, employees of the KGB and the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Specific work was carried out on these issues, there are protocols that involve the implementation or maintenance of information security in our countries,” he said.

The South Ossetian party, according to Tsekov, introduces additional issues into the work of the cooperation commission. As an example, he cited the issue of the procedure for the import and export of cars from South Ossetia.

“Before that, other questions were raised. At the meeting of the Commission, the problems of pension provision were substantially considered. I would like to note that the South Ossetian party has a desire to resolve these issues on the basis of its own legislation. But given that we are talking about integration and partnership, the legislation of the South Ossetian party should largely coincide with the Russian legislation. And we talked in detail with colleagues about these moments. However, we have realized that pension issues in South Ossetia have not yet been fully resolved,” the senator has noted.

During the meeting, issues of education were discussed. As noted by a member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, they mainly concerned the South Ossetia State University, the work of which was discussed in the Federation Council, where it was given a positive assessment. He also touched upon the presentation of the South Ossetian University within the walls of the Federation Council.

Tsekov touched upon the work of the Lower Zaramag checkpoint. According to him, the reconstruction of the checkpoint is scheduled for 2023, which will help increasing the throughput and improve the conditions for crossing the Russian-South Ossetian border.

He has expressed hope that cooperation will continue not only at the level of interstate relations, but also at the level of interregional, with the regions.

“We know that South Ossetia is closely cooperating with the new regions of Russia - with the LPR and the DPR, and these ties were developing before the appearance of these republics as part of the Russian Federation. I think this work will be continued, and since I represent the Republic of Crimea, I always propose to establish relations with this republic. There are already some steps in this direction, for example, Tskhinval has become a sister city with Kerch, the Crimean Federal University has signed the agreement with South Ossetia,” he said.

The senator noted that it would be nice if an agreement was signed between the governments of South Ossetia and Crimea, which would allow for closer cooperation with the regions of the Russian Federation. According to him, South Ossetia is closely working with North Ossetia, which is a region of Russia.

Tsekov called the results of the Commission's activities good, moreover, according to him, the current work was more intensive.
