In honor of the Day of Courage and National Unity in the capital of South Ossetia, a flower-laying ceremony was held at the chapel of the Memorial Cemetery of the Victims of the Georgian Aggression in the courtyard of the secondary school No. 5.

The ceremony was attended by President of the Republic Alan Gagloev, Prime Minister Konstantin Dzhussoev, Chairman of the Parliament Alan Alborov, Ambassador of Russia Marat Kulakhmetov, Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly Andrey Belyaninov, who had arrived in the Republic on a working visit, members of the government, parliamentarians and other officials, employees of the ministries and departments of the Republic.

At the same time, a rally is being held at the monument on the outskirts of Tskhinval, at which the heroic deeds are being honored. In the evening, on the stage of the K.L. Khetagurov South Ossetian State Drama Theater will take place a concert of patriotic songs.

On November 23, 1989, a column of many thousands of armed militants of the Georgian informal nationalist public organizations, led by representatives of the top party and Soviet leadership of the former Georgian SSR, incl. the leadership of the law enforcement agencies of the GSSR tried to enter Tskhinval through the Pris height under the pretext of holding a peaceful rally.

Their goal was terror over the residents of Tskhinval and a show of force in order to expel the Ossetian population from the territory of South Ossetia. Having learned about their intentions, a small group of unarmed Tskhinval residents stood up in front of them like a human shield and did not let them into the city, delaying them until the arrival of more number of residents of Tskhinval and internal troops of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs.
