Investments in South Ossetian enterprises exceeded 100 million rubles; in the near future, highly competitive products from South Ossetia will be supplied to the Russian markets. Taimuraz Goginov, a trade representative of South Ossetia in Russia, announced this at the press conference in Tskhinval.
Positive dynamics of trade turnover
Goginov has stressed that, in general, the economic policy of South Ossetia shows growth dynamics.
“During the so-called covid period, South Ossetia became the only Transcaucasian republic in which there was an increase in trade with Russia. The indicators were rising and today we see a positive trend in trade between South Ossetia and Russia. These are very good indicators and this is the merit of not only the trade representative, but the entire Embassy of South Ossetia in Russia, the Ministry of Economic Development,” he has explained.
The trade representative has stressed that the policy of the leadership of South Ossetia is aimed at attracting investors, at creating good conditions and protecting them on the territory of South Ossetia.
It is necessary to produce more goods for export
Taimuraz Goginov said that in 2021, the trade turnover had increased by almost 50 percent.
“Being an economist, I can say that the balance sheet is still not in our favor. Therefore, it is necessary to produce more goods for export in order to achieve a positive balance,” he said.
The competitiveness of South Ossetia, in his opinion, is very good - there is a legislative framework that provides for full protection of the investor and business. In addition, South Ossetia has signed a trade regime agreement with Russia, which provides very good opportunities for trade, unlike many countries.
“For us, the Russian market is open and this is the most important competitive advantage, not to mention others. The Republic has many minerals and a good climate. I know that the work is underway in several areas to increase South Ossetian export positions. The tourism sector is also developing. All these moments are only pleasing,” said Goginov.
He has added, that currently, South Ossetia is exporting clothes, fruits, wine, water, etc.
