A large-scale exhibition dedicated to the 1100th anniversary of the baptism of Alania will be opened on December 21 at the State Hermitage Museum. This was reported by the press service of the museum.

At this stage, the work is underway to prepare for the opening of the exhibition "Treasures of the Alanian Kingdom." This is the unprecedented inter-museum exhibition project dedicated to Alania, its spiritual and material culture.

“The exhibition presented in the four halls of the Winter Palace is organized chronologically. This allows the viewer to go through the vicissitudes of Alanian history, to trace the change and preservation of its cultural traditions. Among the 500 exhibits are ceremonial weapons and horse harness, jewelry, glass and ceramic dishes, costumes, fragments of church decoration and Christian worship items. Many of the exhibits are being presented for the first time,” the message says.

The exposition will be accompanied by a large educational program with the participation of the Hermitage staff, representatives of the scientific group of the exhibition project, cultural and art figures from St. Petersburg, Moscow and Vladikavkaz.

In January – March 2023, lectures, workshops, and events for children will be held in the halls. The State Hermitage Publishing House has issued a brochure for the exhibition. It is planned to publish a scientific catalog in 2023. One can visit the exhibition "Treasures of the Alania Kingdom to the 1100th anniversary of the Baptism of Alanya" with an entrance ticket to the Main Museum Complex.
