On Friday in Tskhinval, were given the last honors to the volunteer Tamerlan Ostaev, perished heroically during the special military operation in Ukraine.

Hundreds of people came to express their condolences to Ostaev's family and friends, including representatives of the leadership of South Ossetia, headed by President of the Republic Alan Gagloev, the staff of the Republic's Defense Ministry of and the 4th military base.

During the funeral service, the senior lecturer of the Department of Ossetian Literature of South Ossetian State University Sergey Pliev has noted that, despite his age, Tamerlan Ostaev showed himself courageously and died like a hero.

“In order for our younger generation to have a bright future, we must defend our homeland and defeat the enemy. If necessary, then the adult generation will take up arms. Today it is a tragedy that touched not only the Ostaev family, but the entire Ossetian people,” he has stressed.

A representative of the 19th motorized rifle division said that for the courage and heroism shown in the performance of a combat mission, Tamerlan Ostaev was presented with a state award of the Russian Federation.

Tamerlan Ostaev was born on March 23, 2001 in the village of Oktyabrskoye, the Prigorodny district of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. He graduated from the Cadet School of the Defence Ministry of the Republic of South Ossetia in 2018. In 2019 he was drafted into the ranks of the Armed Forces of the Republic of South Ossetia, He was serving as part of a separate training company. He was transferred to the reserve on June 26, 2020 from the post of squad leader of a reconnaissance platoon of a training company with the rank of junior sergeant.

According to the commanders, Tamerlane was distinguished by a special responsible attitude to military service, the desire to master the military profession. He was active, strong and hardy fighter.

He was fighting in the Northern Military District as part of the volunteer units "Alania" and "Veterans", as well as one of the regular military units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. He died a heroic death on September 26, 2022 in the battles with Ukrainian neo-Nazis in the village of Izyumskoye, Kharkov region. The group, which included Tamerlane, fell into an enemy ambush. The search for the fighter's body continued for several months.

Tamerlane's father - Oleg Ostaev - is a veteran of the national army, an active participant in the hostilities to repel the Georgian aggression against South Ossetia.

Tamerlane was only 21 years old; he was given the last military honors.

The volunteer was posthumously awarded the medal "Defender of the Fatherland" by the decree of President of South Ossetia.
