South Ossetia’s Ambassador to Abkhazia, Astamur Katsiya, took part in a solemn flower-laying ceremony at the Memorial to the Defenders of the Fatherland in Sukhum’s Glory Park.
The event marked the 33rd anniversary of the liberation of the Abkhazian capital, the Foreign Ministry press service reported.
"The ceremony was attended by Abkhazian leadership representatives led by President Badra Gunba, the Russian Federation’s Ambassador to the Republic Vyacheslav Gladkov, the war veterans, volunteers, and representatives of the government bodies, as well ashas the public," the press service stated.
The operation to liberate Sukhum from the Georgian State Council troops concluded on September 27, 1993. The battle for the city lasted 11 days.
