The appeal of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation to the parliaments of the countries of the world and international parliamentary organizations in connection with the ongoing attacks on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant was discussed on Thursday at the meeting of the Presidium of the Parliament of South Ossetia.
According to the press service of the legislative body, the issue was submitted to the deputies for consideration by the head of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and Inter-parliamentary relations Zaza Dryaev.
“Ukraine's actions in relation to the ZNPP cannot be described otherwise than as nuclear terrorism, bringing destruction and death. Repeated statements by the representatives of the Russian Federation in the UN Security Council, the IAEA decision-making bodies, and other major international platforms about the destructive activities that threaten all of humanity, which are carried out by armed Ukrainian neo-Nazis and foreign mercenaries in relation to the Zaporizhzhye NPP, remain without a proper response. The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation demands from the military and political leadership of Ukraine immediate cessation of any attacks on the Zaporizhzhye NPP and related critical infrastructure,” Driyaev said.
The deputy has noted that the Federation Council appeals to the parliaments of the countries of the world and international parliamentary organizations to condemn the policy of the Kyiv authorities and demand an end to aggressive actions that threaten the safety of Europe's largest nuclear power plant. The parliamentarian asked to support the appeal of colleagues from Russia and submit the document for discussion at the session.
The deputies unanimously approved the appeal.
Zaza Driyaev also brought to the presidium the issue of the appeal of the chambers of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation to the parliaments of the countries of the world on the need to strengthen the regime of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons and on Their Destruction.
Driyaev has stressed that on November 29, 2022, at the meeting of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Inter-Parliamentary Relations, it was decided to unanimously come up with a legislative initiative to submit to the Parliament of the Republic of South Ossetia a draft law on the accession of the Republic of South Ossetia to the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Bacteriological (Biological) ) and toxin weapons and their destruction, dated December 16, 1971.
This issue was also approved by the deputies unanimously and submitted to the next session for further discussion.
The parliamentarians also discussed the presentation by President Alan Gagloev of a draft constitutional law on amendments to the Constitution, according to which deputies are vested with the authority to early release the prosecutor general of the Republic without the presentation of the head of state, and a bill initiated by a group of deputies on amendments to the law "On the Prosecutor's Office".
