In South Ossetia, Russia Day is a public holiday. Most of the residents of the Republic are citizens of the Russian Federation; we consider ourselves a part of the great power and value our relations, which are based on the principles of mutual respect, partnership and alliance.

This is stated in the congratulation of President Alan Gagloev on the Day of Russia.

He has reminded that Russia is the guarantor of the security and stable development of South Ossetia.

"In August 2008, when Georgia unleashed a full-scale war against South Ossetia, Russia came to the defense of our people. It provided military and humanitarian assistance to the Republic, forced Georgia to peace, thereby preventing the complete extermination of the South Ossetian people, and recognized the statehood of South Ossetia," the congratulatory message published on the President's official website, reads.

Gagloev has once again emphasized that Russia has always responded to the challenges of the time with courage, the unity of the people and the desire for creation.

"Today, peoples of Russia again had to confront external threats. Russian military personnel, in their ranks and fighters from South Ossetia, are fighting for the liberation of Ukraine from Nazism. Patriotism, freedom, justice are the values that we are again defending today. I am sure that victory will be ours," he said.

On this festive day, the head of state wished the residents of the Republic health, peace, success and the achievement of all the goals "for the benefit of our great Motherland."
