Commemorative events dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the Georgian aggression against the Republic in August 2008 will be held in South Ossetia, the Republican Commission for preparing and holding state-significant events told IA "Res".
"On August 7, at 16.00, the photo exhibition "08.08.08 - 08.08.23" will be opened at the National Museum, on the same day, at 18.00, the play "The Last Witness" about the Ossetian genocide in 1920 will be shown on the South Ossetian stage, and at 22.00 a solemn and mourning ceremony will be held at the memorial complex "To the Defenders of South Ossetia"," the Commission said.
The interlocutor of the agency has noted that the next day, August 8, at 9.00, memorial services will be held in the temples of the Republic for the victims of the August war, and at 10.00 there will be the official flower-laying ceremony at the places of death of the defenders of Ossetia, the final event on this day will be a literary and poetic evening at the Anacharsis National Library at 14.00.
On the night of August 8, 2008, Georgia committed the armed attack on South Ossetia. As a result of the war, more than a thousand people died, of which 72 were Russian servicemen. On August 26, 2008, Russia recognized the sovereignty of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
