On Friday, a meeting was held in Moscow between President of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev and Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev, the Presidential Executive Office of South Ossetia reports.
Medvedev congratulated the head and people of the South Ossetian state on the upcoming holiday - the 15th anniversary of the recognition of the RSO by the Russian Federation and wished prosperity and success.
“It was not the easiest decision that Russia made in 2008, but which ensured peace in the Caucasus, protection of the life and health of the residents of the Republic and the solution of big problems. Since then, our allied, very good relations have been developing successfully, and this development will certainly continue,” Medvedev said.
Alan Gagloev expressed gratitude to the leadership of Russia for the fateful decision for South Ossetia made in 2008.
“In our Republic, everyone, young and old, knows that your name is associated with the issuance of decree No. 1261 of August 26, 2008, recognizing the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia. This decision was the logical conclusion of the military operation to force Georgia, this treacherous aggressor, to peace.
In the memory of our people there was no more joyful celebration than the day of August 26th. Those who were on that day on the central square of the war-torn Tskhinval know what real happiness is, which came after many years of hardships and human grief," he said.
According to the President, the recognition of the independence of South Ossetia opened wide opportunities for peaceful development for the Republic.
"Thanks to Russia's all-round assistance, the economy destroyed by the war was restored. Hospitals, schools, residential buildings, roads, gas pipelines - all this was rebuilt thanks to Russia," he said.
Alan Gagloev invited Medvedev to visit South Ossetia at any time convenient for him.
On the eve of the holiday, Medvedev met with the presidents of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
