The passionate speech of Mikheil Saakashvili’s uncle, the UN former employee Temur Alasania, may be aimed at pushing a certain political platform to support extremist slogans and their subsequent wide public discussion. This was stated by the head of the information and analytical department of the President of South Ossetia, Yuri Vazagov, commenting on Temur Alasania’s recent call to the Georgian society to resolve the issue of returning the territories of South Ossetia and Abkhazia to Georgia by force.
Vazagov noted that the violent reaction of high-ranking representatives of the Georgian Dream to Alasania’s words shows that they take the activity of the ex-President of Georgia’s entourage quite seriously against the backdrop of the situation developing in the South Caucasus.
“The statement by Alasania, who called on the Georgian society to think about the forceful option of “returning the territories,” reflects the position of a significant part of the Georgian society. It's about those who support the United National Movement and a number of other radical parties. Many experts associate Alasania himself with American intelligence services, noting his role in the implementation of Mikheil Saakashvili’s project. It is possible that his sensational statements, made at the meeting with the Georgian migrants in the United States, were intended to once again revive the discussion in the Georgian society about methods for resolving contradictions with Abkhazia and South Ossetia,” Vazagov said.
The expert has reminded that back in the summer and fall of last year, very numerous segments of the Georgian public harbored hopes for Russia’s defeat during the special military operation and made forecasts for the subsequent withdrawal of the Russian Federation from Transcaucasia.
“They hoped that in such a scenario the two former autonomies would be subjugated without much hassle. In general, a number of resources published the opinions of politicians and experts about what to do in this case with the Abkhazians and Ossetians, whether to give them any kind of autonomous status at all or “let them go to Russia.” A year later, only a pale shadow remains of the illusion of a close victory," he has noted.
Vazagov has continued that despite the propaganda of the media, who receive financial support from the Western countries and foundations and continue to assure the Georgian average of the inevitable defeat of Russia and the omnipotence of the collective West, many in Georgia understand that the situation is not the best for Ukraine. The collapse of the advertised “counter-offensive” and the picture of dozens of burning “leopards” and “Bradleys ” turned out to be more convincing than the propaganda arguments.
“In such a situation, it is difficult for supporters of forceful revenge in Georgia to count on any success. However, this does not mean that the tasks of Western intelligence services and their clientele in the Caucasus region are changing. Their main goal remains to create certain difficulties for Russia, including by supporting radical nationalists,” the head of the department has emphasized.
Vazagov has added that recent provocations in the border areas with the participation of such elements show that representatives of this category of Georgian society are fertile ground for organizing various incidents.
