There is only one country in the world that can be one hundred percent self-sufficient - the Russian Federation with its resources. Professor, Rector of the South Ossetian State University Vadim Tedeev stated this during the Moscow-Tskhinval video bridge.
“If Georgia signs a non-aggression agreement against South Ossetia and recognizes its statehood, we will be able to open roads to the South Caucasus. And then we ourselves will be able to provide help to whoever needs it. However, today we need economic and military assistance,” Tedeev said.
The rector noted the need for further measures to develop sectors of the South Ossetian economy.
“I would really like us to further develop our economy. But it is not timely to raise the question of self-sufficiency,” the rector has noted.
The professor has emphasized that on August 26, 2008, Russia became the guarantor of the statehood of the Republic of South Ossetia, recognizing its independence and signing the agreement with the Republic on alliance and integration.
“Today, 15 years later, South Ossetia has been living under a peaceful sky, but with anxiety, as the United States of America, Ukraine and Western countries are openly pushing Georgia to aggravate the situation in the South Caucasus to open the so-called second front. There are citizens in the Republic who express fear that the story with Artsakh may repeat itself here. I categorically disagree with this due to the fact that Artsakh was not recognized by member countries of the United Nations, even by Armenia. And none of the countries gave security guarantees to Artsakh,” he said.
According to him, as for South Ossetia, the independence of the Republic was recognized with the diplomatic assistance of Russia by a number of other UN member countries.
“At the same time, Russia provided full security guarantees to South Ossetia during the signed interstate agreements,” Tedeev added.
Rector of the South Ossetian State University has emphasized that today the Republic of South Ossetia is in the zone of increased geopolitical risks.
“Thanks to the resilience and dedication of the people, thanks to close cooperation with the Russian Federation, active military-political and economic assistance to the people of South Ossetia, thanks to our own resources, we are able to cope with these threats, building our young state and ensure a decent standard of living for our people,” Tedeev has concluded.
