The Afghan servicemen from South Ossetia showed the example of perseverance and heroism - Gagloev

A ceremonial meeting in honor of the 35th anniversary of the withdrawal of the Soviet troops from Afghanistan was held in Tskhinval on Thursday.

The audience was presented with a documentary film about the internationalist servicemen, after which President of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev addressed them.

The head of state has emphasized that the day of February 15, 1989 will forever remain an unforgettable date for those who participated in the hostilities on the Afghan soil, for all contemporaries of those memorable events.

“The limited contingent of Soviet troops in Afghanistan included over two hundred servicemen from South Ossetia. Bagram, Kandahar, Panjshir - these names say a lot to anyone who knows about the events of the Afghan war. Our compatriots were fighting heroically in the most difficult areas, always and everywhere showing examples of perseverance, heroism and humanity. They showed themselves to be worthy sons of their homeland, their names are forever inscribed in the chronicle of the military glory of our people,” Gagloev has emphasized.

The President has noted that far from their homeland, Afghan war veterans, often at the risk of their lives, showed the highest professionalism, courage and bravery in solving the assigned tasks.

Russian Ambassador to South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov expressed gratitude to the Afghan . servicemen for their heroism.

“About two hundred guys from South Ossetia were fulfilling their military duty shoulder to shoulder during the Afghan war. Thank you. Thank you, Afghans! Unfortunately, not everyone lived to see this day. We will remember all the serviceman,” the Ambassador has noted.

Marat Kulakhmetov expressed special words of gratitude to the mothers who raised worthy sons of the Motherland.

“Now the guys are fulfilling their task shoulder to shoulder in the special operation zone. I am sure that they are doing it with dignity,” he noted.

Chairman of the Union of Afghan Veterans Murat Guchmazov has also emphasized that Afghan . servicemen from South Ossetia fulfilled their military duty with honor.
